Yogi is one-year-old and was rescued from Mexico from a litter of 6 but only 2 survived. Yogi was brought into the clinic for a nutritional assessment as he was having problems with digestion, blood and mucus in the stools, itching and hot spots. Yogi had already been on two courses of antibiotics which depleted the intestinal friendly bacteria and caused a yeast overgrowth. Both of these intestinal imbalances will cause further problems with the digestive system and the immune system and may also affect energy levels and behaviour.
Puppies that have had poor nutritional starts from illness and/or neglect will often continue to suffer chronic problems even as they mature. At this point the diet and any nutritional deficiencies must be corrected to improve nutrient absorption and to re-build their immune system. Yogi was started on a new diet with no beef, pork, bison, or chicken. He also tested very poorly to all grains even though he was not eating many. Yogi tested well for cooked eggs, lamb, turkey and salmon. He may also have potatoes and/or sweet potatoes and all vegetables and fruit that he likes. Yogi was started with Pro-Colon probiotics, Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid to improve digestion, balance the colon eco-system and aid the immune system. We also added Kava’s Healing Oil as an immune aid and natural anti-inflammatory for the skin as well as Kidney Care for general detoxification and yeast.
